New dwelling in Guildford

The site comprises an irregular shaped plot totalling approximately half an acre and is currently occupied by a chalet bungalow probably constructed in the early 1950s. The site is on a fairly steep slope running from east to west. The existing bungalow is of little architectural merit and the current owners wish to demolish it. We have recently gained planning approval for a new dwelling.

We are proposing to construct a new house in the same location in order to maintain the building line and also to maximise the views. The proposed front elevation is staggered with the two side elements being parallel to the road (but at different levels) and the central element at an angle to soften the front building line. It is proposed to construct the new dwelling using traditional materials with a brick base, tile hanging to the first floor and a clay tiled roof. The central section will be timber-framed with glass and brick infill panels.
